BULA, GUINEA-BISSAU-The Vice President of ECOWAS Women’s Forum is urging Liberian women seeking elected positions to compete with their male counterparts.
Madam Marieme Cee said:” Women must not shy away from the enduring competitive electoral process.”
According to the ECOCOM Amazon top official, doing so would be a sign of defeat before the start of the October Poll.
Madam Cee spoke on Saturday, July 8, 2023, in an ELBC interview in Bula, a city a few miles away from Bissau, Guinea Bissau.
She commended the National Elections Commission (NEC) for the enforcement of the thirty percent gender quota and political parties that are complying with the policy.
Madam Marieme Cee promised to begin discussions with the ECOWAS Commission regarding the need to deploy an observation mission for the elections.
Meanwhile, the ECOWAS Women’s Forum has dedicated the new refurbished Bula Maternity Hospital and assorted medical items in Guinea-Bissau.
Medical items donated include deliverance beds, baby incubators, several pieces of wheelchairs, and drugs, among others.
Madam Marieme Cee put the total cost of the project and procurement of the medical items to more than twenty-six thousand United States Dollars.
Madam Cee said the Maternity Hospital, being the biggest in that part of Guinea-Bissau, was faced with a series of challenges ranging from the lack of drugs and poor infrastructure.
According to Madam Marieme Cee, the donation is one of several interventions the organization intends to make in other member states this year.
