Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Yin Chengwu has hailed the what he called substantial contents of the medical cooperation between China and Liberia.
Ambassador Yin said while providing quality medical services to the Liberian people, the two countries continue to push their health cooperation to a new height.
He assured China’s continuous support to the development of Liberia’s healthcare programs through various means, helping Liberia to build a community of health for all.
This was contained in a speech delivered on his behalf by Fan Erwei, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Chinese Embassy during a welcoming program for the 16th batch of Chinese Medical Team to Liberia.
“Last year, the Chinese government and the Liberian government signed a new round of protocol for dispatching China medical team to Liberia (2022-2027), and the implementation of the 1st year of Paired Hospital Cooperation Mechanism Project (Cardiovascular Department Cooperation Project) is progressing well. Meanwhile, the National Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Laboratory Project in the 14th Military Hospital, as well as the Comprehensive Upgrading Project of Tapeta Hospital, which includes the construction of the national herbal research laboratory and medical plant garden, are all progressing steadily on schedule. China-Liberia medical cooperation has substantial contents. While providing quality medical services to the Liberian people, it continues to push the health cooperation between the two countries to a new height. China will continue to firmly support the development of Liberia’s health cause through various means, and is willing to join hands with Liberia to build a community of health for all” he added.
The 15th medical team successfully completed their tasks and some members will return to China in the coming days.
The Chinese Envoy recounted that during their stay in Liberia, the 15th batch honored the pledge of “braving hardship, saving lives and showing great love.
“At the same time, they worked closely with the Liberian side to combat the pandemic, actively promoted the China-Africa paired hospital cooperation project, trained medical and nursing talents and donated medical equipment to local hospitals, carried out charity consultations and distributed free medicines, participated in radio programs to publicize China’s experience in pandemic prevention and control, and provided pandemic treatment for Chinese in Liberia. The team has been reported by domestic and foreign media for more than 100 times, and has been highly commended by the cooperating hospitals and Liberian people” the Chinese Deputy Chief of Mission told the gathering at JFK on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
There are 6 new members in the 16th medical team and 3 veteran members including the team leader.
The Ambassador expressed the hope that the new team will play a good role in passing on the good tradition, take over the baton of health aid and complete all the tasks successfully.
Also speaking, JFK Chief Executive Officer Dr. Jerry Brown, extolled the Chinese Government for its expressed interest and support to Liberia’s healthcare system.
Dr. Brown said such support continues to have a significant impact on the Country’s health system.
He named the provision of medical equipment, drugs and training opportunities to as some of China’s contribution to the JFK.
Dr. Brown said China’s support has also greatly helped the hospital optimized its services to the public over the years.
Last year, China and Liberia signed a new round of protocol for dispatching China medical team to Liberia for a five-year period from 2022-2027.
The move also included the provision of a National Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Laboratory Project in the 14th Military Hospital, as well as the Comprehensive Upgrading Project of Tapita Hospital, which includes the construction of the national herbal research laboratory and medical plant garden.
