MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) has set March 31, next year, as the deadline for the old Liberian Dollar Banknotes known as the LS1 and LS2 on the Liberian market.
The LS1 were banknotes printed around 2000 to 2015, while the LS2 were printed around 2016 to 2017.
The Chairman of the CBL Technical Committee on Currency Reform, Mussa Kamara, said:” The old banknotes will no longer be legal tender in Liberia as of the deadline.”
Also speaking, CBL Director of Banking, William Jlopleh, said:” The bank has already collected and destroyed about twenty billion of both the LS1 and LS2 on the market.”
Mr. Jlopleh told ELBC on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, that about five billion of the old Liberian Dollar Banknotes are still in circulation.
