MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) says it needs over five hundred million US Dollars to get a new dam constructed for Liberia.
The World Bank has already committed three hundred million dollars to jump-start the project.
It followed the disclosure by the LEC Management of plans for the construction of a new hydro dam along the St. Paul River.
The move, according to the LEC Chief Executive Officer, Monie Captan, is to boost and expand access to electricity for all.
Mr. Captan said:” Feasibility studies and the Environmental Social Impact Assessment are underway and will be completed this March.”
At the same time, the Mount Coffee Hydro Plant is poised to receive huge expansion work soon.
Mr. Captan said:” There is an ongoing procurement of equipment to jump-start the expansion work, and the Work Bank has approved ninety-six million US Dollars for the successful expansion of the hydro, and the completion will take almost three years beginning this year.”
The current capacity of the hydro is eighty-eight megawatts.
