MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The 55th National Legislature on Tuesday convened its first plenary following well-publicized leadership elections on Monday.
Liberia has a bicameral Legislature, made up of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
On Monday, January 15, 2024, Grand Kru County Representative, Fonati Kofa, was elected Speaker of the House, while Grand Bassa County Senator, Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence, was elected President Pro-Tempore of the Senate.
Our reporter said the separate chambers of the Legislature were full of excitement, as congratulatory messages continued to pour in for the new leadership.
Both Speaker Kofa and Pro-tempt Lawrence have vowed to get down to business immediately and start to deliver on the government’s legislative agenda.
