MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The ECOWAS Commission says it is yet to receive any direct formal notification from three military regimes about their immediate from the Bloc.
Coups rocked Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso on Sunday, January 28, 2024, announced that they were withdrawing from ECOWAS.
However, in a release issued recently, the ECOWAS Commission said its attention was only drawn to a statement broadcast on the National Televisions of Mali and Niger, announcing the decision of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger to withdraw from ECOWAS.
The ECOWAS Commission clarified that, as directed by the Authority of Heads of State and Government, it has been working assiduously with the three countries for the restoration of constitutional order.
It said Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali remain important members of the Community and the Authority remains committed to finding a negotiated solution to the political impasse.
According to the ECOWAS Commission, it remains seized with development and shall make further pronouncements as the situation evolves.
