Gender Minister Designate Swears to Push Rape Law

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Gender Minister Designate has pledged a robust enforcement of the Liberia’s Rape Law.

Madam Gbeme Kollie said:” If confirmed, I will initiate inter-agency collaboration to develop a simplified version of   the Rape Law to allow citizens easy access to the document.”

Madam Kollie said such collaboration will stimulate public awareness of the Rape Law.

Speaking during her confirmation hearing on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the Liberian Senate, she also announced her Empowerment Plan for Women, focusing on quality social norms, inclusive participation and training, among others.

The Gender Minister Designate then promised to address gender reforms and strengthen the justice system to fast-track cases of abuse against women and girls across the Country.
