Pres. Boakai Charges Liberia Electricity Corporation to Make Improvement…

by Francis Pelenah Jr,

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has expressed the need for improvement in electricity generation and distribution for the Liberian people.

President Boakai wants the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) to do more in addressing constant power outages in Monrovia and its environs.

The Liberian Leader made the call during a meeting with the LEC Chief Executive, Monie Captan, and other top officials at the Executive Mansion on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.

The LEC has persistently said that it is making frantic efforts to expand electricity access, with the hope of connecting more Liberians to the National Power Grid.

The public has been complaining about limited electricity supply from the LEC, which is made worse by a wave of excruciating heat being experienced in Monrovia and other parts of the Country.

At the same time, President Boakai has made additional nominations in Government affecting the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Those nominated are Wilmot Reeves, Deputy Minister for Commerce and Trade, Scholastica Nimely, Deputy Minister for Administration, Benedict Dolo, Deputy Minister for Small Business Administration, and Andrew Paegar, Deputy Minister for Industry.

Others are Kelvin Mattaldi, Assistant Minister for Commerce and Trade, Uriah Bryant, Assistant Minister for Industry, Jekeh Koiyan, Assistant Minister for Small Business Administration, and Saraphen Dahn, Assistant Minister for Administration.

The Executive Mansion said that the latest nominations are subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate.
