MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Immigration Service Commissioner General Designate has vowed to revamp the entity in line with international standards if confirmed.
Mr. Steve Zargo said:” If confirmed, I will work along with my counterparts to ensure an increase in the LIS contribution to the national budget.
Speaking during his confirmation hearing on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at the Liberian Senate, the former Senator also stressed the need for the construction of a modern LIS Headquarters.
He told the Senate Plenary that if allowed to serve, he would work along with his team to ensure that Liberia’s borders are well protected, and further promised to address issues affecting the welfare of the LIS personnel.
At the same time, the Liberian Senate Committee Chair on Defense, Intelligence, Security, and Veteran Affairs is calling for the review of the Liberian Immigration Service Contract with the Contec Global Group.
Senator Momo Cyrus said:” The revision of the contract will inform the public about its benefit to the people of Liberia. Liberians need to understand how the arrangement is helping the Security Sector of the Country.”
The Lofa County Senator said the Immigration Commissioner General Designate, Steve Zargo, will be invited by the Committee to provide information on the contract if confirmed.
