MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Criminal Court ‘D’ has sentenced a notorious armed robber to eight years imprisonment after jurors found him guilty.
Reading the probation report from the Justice Ministry on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, Judge Memenita Sirleaf revealed that defendant Joshua Wleh has over three years terrorized the Chocolate City Community in Gardnerville.
At the same time, the Court, on Wednesday, handed down a “Not guilty” verdict of armed robbery in favor of George Wade, popularly known as Jack Nicklaus.
After parading seven witnesses, Judge Sirleaf acquitted Mr. Wade because the Prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against defendant Wade.
A prima facie case is established by sufficient evidence and can only be overturned by rebutting evidence adduced at trial.
In her ruling, Judge Sirleaf also stressed that the prosecution failed to sustain the burden of proof to convict the defendant.
Despite the “Not guilty” verdict, defendant George Wade will remain in prison to face prosecution on allegations of rape and theft committed in March 2023.
