MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) says it is set to launch the Death to Onchocerciasis and Lymphatic Filariasis (DOLF) Project today, Friday, in Bong County.
A release from the Institution said the project, which will be launched at the Bong Mines Hospital in the County, is a Clinical Research partnership between the Liberian Government and the University of Washington on the safety and efficacy of novel combination regimens for treatment of the disease.
The release noted that the study’s primary goal is to provide preliminary data on the safety of triple-drug treatments to clear or greatly reduce microfilariae in the skin and eyes.
According to NPHIL, the admission process of the “DOLF CLINICAL TRIAL” will kick-start at Bong Mines Hospital.
It noted that an estimated one million people have been blinded or have severe visual impairment due to the disease.
