MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has declared today, Friday, May 17, as “World Telecommunications and Information Society Day”, to be observed throughout the Country as a working holiday.
The Proclamation calls on all Ministries and Agencies of the Government of Liberia, Business Houses, and National, and International ICT Organizations to cooperate with the Posts and Telecommunications Ministry in executing appropriate programs befitting the day.
According to a Foreign Ministry release issued on May 16, 2024, the Posts and Telecommunications Ministry will join member States of the International Communication Union to observe the occasion.
The Foreign Ministry noted that this year’s World Telecommunications and Information Society Day will be observed under the theme:” Digital Innovation for Sustainable Development”.
The Proclamation added that the Day has been celebrated annually since May 17, 1969, to mark the founding of the International Communication Union and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention.
