MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives has pledged to push for more budgetary support to the country’s WASH Sector.
Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah said the Government of Liberia should provide more funding to improve the WASH Sector.
The Lofa County District-One Representative disclosed on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, during a multi-stakeholder engagement with members of the WASH Standing Committee at the Capitol in Monrovia.
Representative Fallah praised development partners, especially the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), for gains made over the years in Liberia’s WASH Sector.
He also thanked the Civil Society Organizations for championing the establishment of a WASH Standing Committee at the 55th National Legislature.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the WASH Legislative Caucus, Representative Thomas Goshua, said plans are underway to establish the Ministry of Water in Liberia.
Representative Goshua said:” The proposed Ministry if established, will be charged with the responsibility to address challenges affecting water and other related sectors.”
The Grand Bassa County District-Five Representative told the multi-stakeholders meeting that consultation is ongoing, as part of efforts leading to the establishment of the proposed Ministry of Water.
He called for a joint effort in addressing challenges confronting the country’s WASH Sector, adding that doing so will go a long way in fostering sanitation governance.
