MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has constituted a committee on rice to ensure the availability and price stability of the country’s staple.
The Executive Mansion said the Committee on Rice is expected to formulate a policy to ensure that constant and steady supply of rice in the country.
It is also expected to derive a strategy toward accelerating local production of rice, while, at the same time, ensuring that Liberians’ participation in the importation and distribution of rice throughout the country.
Part of the Committee’s work is to put in place a policy that will lead to the reactivation and management of the Rice Stabilization Fund.
A crucial mandate is to ensure that the database of rice, price comparison of major rice-producing countries, and the grades of rice on the local market.
