MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Former River Gee County Senator Commany Wesseh is calling for the harmonization of resident permits in the sub-region.
Mr. Wesseh also emphasized the need to make resident permits affordable for citizens in the ECOWAS region.
The former River Gee County Senator said:” Such measure will promote free movement, trade and boost economic activities in ECOWAS States.”
Mr. Wesseh urged Liberians to embrace ECOWAS institutions and citizens and their roles in restoring peace and democratic governance in the country.
The former River Gee County Senator has proposed that some public facilities be named in honor of ECOWAS’ recognition of efforts in the restoration of peace to Liberia.
Meanwhile, Immigration Commissioner Steve Zargo said the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) knows that alien resident permit fees must be harmonized in the sub-region.
Commissioner Zargo Said:” The LIS has taken away the resident permit contract from a European Company, Contact Global, to prioritize Liberian or African Companies.”
He said the request is in support of President Joseph Boakai’s quest to empower Liberian Companies with the capacity and other African Companies.
Commissioner Zargo assured that the Government of Liberia will equally protect all ECOWAS citizens living in line with the laws of Liberia.
The LIS Boss, however, recommended harmonized immigration training amongst ECOWAS Countries to ensure one immigration approach in the sub-region.
