MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Management of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) has described as an error that ELBC Metro FM and Liberia National Language Radio are unlicensed media entities.
The Management’s statement is in reaction to a report from the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) that the two LBS sub-stations are among several unlicensed radio stations operating in Montserrado County.
But, speaking on the ELBC Super Morning Show on Friday, June 21, 2024, the LBS Director General, Eugene Fahngon, clarified that the Act creating the LTA does not give the entity the right to issue a license to the State Broadcaster.
Mr. Fahngon quotes Session 11(c) of the Act creating LTA, as saying the entity is only charged with the responsibility to issue individual, class, and international licenses.
Director General Eugene Fahngon said:” The Act creating the LBS gives the entity the authority to engage in the business of broadcasting, and develop radio and television industry in Liberia, contrary to what is being reported by the LTA.”
