by Jonathan O. Grigsby, Sr

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Chairperson of the National AIDS Commission in Liberia says the lack of privacy for persons with HIV status remains a key barrier to employment of people living with HIV.

Dr. Cecelia Nuta said:” Recent report reveals that people are being excluded from participating in certain types of employment because of their HIV status.”

Dr. Nuta disclosed that the 2022 Stigma Index Survey conducted by the Liberia Network of persons living with HIV reveals that 44.8 percent are unemployed in Liberia.

She was speaking on Monday, September 2, 2024, during a one-day meeting of the National AIDS Commission Focal Persons at Government Ministries and Agencies said women are higher compared to men.

Dr. Cecelia Nuta said some of the barriers can be addressed through the convention of non-discrimination in employment and occupation, which provides specific provisions on non-discrimination and equality at work.
