Press Union of Liberia’s Registered Members File Writ of Prohibition…

by Fabine W. Kwiah

MONOVIA, LIBERIA-Registered members of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), including Presidential candidate Mae Azango and Vice Presidential candidate Aloysius Makor, have filed a Writ of Prohibition before the Justice-In-Chambers against the Interim Leadership Committee, and Judge Boima Konto.

The twenty-one count Writ of Prohibition, a copy which is in the possession of this Station, among others, alleged that they are registered members of the PUL, entitled to the full rights and privileges to vote and be voted for in any elections for the leadership of the Union.

The complaints also alleged that the Interim Committee released the elections timetable on September 4, and omitted and excluded the registration of candidates, scheduling the polls to take place on September 21.

The complaints are asking the Presiding Justice-In-Chambers at the Supreme Court to refrain and prohibit the Interim Committee from continuing to proceed with the conduct of rerun elections that are not in line with the ruling, facts, and circumstances of the instant case and calling upon the Committee to open up the process by conducting fresh, free, and fair elections.

Cllr. Alphonsus Zeon, who is representing Azango and others, is asking the Justice-In-Chambers to declare the interpretation by Judge Konto outside a court when he was not sitting in a term of presiding over any judicial forum, illegal and contrary to law.
