MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Bishop of the United Methodist Church (UMC) in Liberia, Samuel Quire, has termed the ongoing crisis in the church as political.

Bishop Quire said:” The current controversy about same sex marriage in the United Methodist Church is a smear campaign to get me out as Bishop.”

The UMC Cleric maintained that the church in Liberia has never endorsed nor supported any gay activity, including same sex marriage.

Speaking on ELBC’s Bumper Show on Wednesday, October 16,2024, Bishop Quire also refuted the rumor of being bribed during the global conference to enforce the practice in Liberia.

The United Methodist Church Bishop said such misinformation is a clearer attempt to further disintegrate the church.

At the same time, the UMC Bishop has alarmed over assassination plot against his life in the wake of the same sex controversy.

He alleged that there is an intelligence of people trying to get at him for unspecified reasons, and that police authorities assign him an officer to safeguard his life and family.

Bishop Samuel Quire told the nation that despite threats on his life, he will not resign or recuse himself in the midst of the crisis.
