MONROVIA, LIBERIA-At least forty-seven members of the House of Representatives have signed a resolution to remove Speaker Koffa.

The members premised their action to what they call blatant violation of the House’s rules by the Speaker, and further alleged that he is conflicted with interest and taking unilateral decisions on behalf of the House.

Reading the resolution, Nimba County District Two Representative, Nyan Flomo accused Speaker Koffa for altering the 2024 Draft National Budget.

The resolution also stated that Speaker of the House of Representatives unilaterally created new committees and departments without the Plenary’s approval.

ELBC Legislative Reporter said Thursday’s action disrupted legislative proceedings, as all chambers of the House were locked.

At the same time, the Executive Branch of the Liberian Government has categorically rejected link to a plot on Capitol Hill to remove the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fonati Koffa.

In a release signed by the Acting Information Minister, Daniel Sando, he described as disgraceful and unfounded the accusations by the leader of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) that is allegedly funding such a scheme.

The release added that the purported plot to remove Speaker Koffa from his leadership role looks more like an internal power struggle within the CDC orchestrated allegedly by former President George Weah.

It added that former President Weah is noted for fighting proxy battles against prominent leaders within the CDC so as to cement himself as the Party’s demigod rather than rather than allowing others to gain political prominence.

It further that to insinuate that the Executive is using public monies to influence the purported actions on Capitol Hill to remove the Speaker, as Mr. Weah has allegedly done, speaks to the depraved mentality of the former President.
