MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has secured a grant from the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) for the extension of the Liberian-Swedish Feeder Roads Project.
The Project, in its third phase, is now called the Liberian-Swedish Access Driven Rural Development Program (LISA), and is aimed at assisting the Liberian Government improve a target of up to 195 kilometers of village footpaths to motorcycle standard access roads in Bong, Lofa and Nimba Counties.
According to a Public Works Ministry release issued recently, the project is aimed at improving the living standards of people, reduce poverty, increase access for up to sixty thousand people in those three counties.
The Liberian-Swedish Access Driven Rural Development Program will also provide skills training and temporary work and income to three thousand one hundred twenty villagers during the construction of Village Roads and maintain feeder roads.
It also said the LISA project will strengthen the capacity of County Administration to conduct road maintenance, thus contributing to the Government’s decentralization policy.
