MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Majority Bloc of the House of Representatives has threatened to remove Deputy House Speaker Thomas Fallah, if he refuses to preside over their session on Tuesday, next week.

According to them, any attempt for the Deputy Speaker to stay away from their session, his position will be declared vacant.

ELBC Legislative Reporter said:” The action of the lawmakers was triggered, following an official communication compelling the Deputy Speaker to preside over their sitting.”

They said in the absence of the Deputy Speaker, a special election will be held for the position of a speaker pro-tempt.

The Majority Bloc of the House of Representatives has been holding sessions in the Joint Chambers of the National Legislature in the last two days.

Meanwhile, Liberian Senate has constituted a five-man Mediating Committee to remedy the ongoing crisis at the House of Representatives.

The Committee was set up on Thursday, October 24,2024, following a close-door meeting with members of the Liberian Senate.

The Chair and members of the Committee include Gbehzohngar Findley, Gbleh-Bo Brown, Geevon Smith, Darbah Varpilah and Thomas Yayah-Nimely.

The Committee is charged with the responsibility to find ways to resolve the ongoing crisis.

This marks the second week, with the Majority Bloc opposing the Speakership of Cllr. Fonati Koffa.

At the same time, the embattled House Speaker, Fonati Koffa, has taken flight to the Supreme Court of Liberia with a petition for a Writ of Prohibition.

Cllr. Koffa’s legal team on Thursday, October24,2024, filed the Writ of Prohibition before the Presiding Justice in Chambers of the Supreme Court, with the objective of preventing the Majority Bloc from operating sessions.

His application to the Court claimed that his colleagues’ separation of sessions is illegal, and wants the Supreme Court’s intervention through his petition for a Writ of Prohibition.

A Writ of Prohibition is a special proceeding that seeks to obtain a writ, ordering the Respondent to refrain from pursuing a judicial action or proceeding specified therein.

The Presiding Justice in Chambers is expected to call all parties to a legal conference in couple of days before making any decision on the matter, as provided for by law.
