MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Thomas Fallah, has written the Majority Bloc of the House longing for time to consult his lawyers.
Deputy Speaker Fallah said:” Given the crucial nature of his appearance in their chamber seeking legal guidance is critical to inform his action.”
His communication to the Majority Bloc followed a recent letter from the body mandating him to appear in the Joint Chambers on Tuesday, October 29,2024.
Meanwhile, members of the Majority Bloc have maintained that the absence of the Deputy Speaker on Thursday, October 31,2024, will render his position vacant.
The Majority Bloc said a fresh election would be held on Thursday, October 31 to elect a Speaker Pro-Tempore, if Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah refuses to preside in their chamber.
At the same time, the Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), Atty. Janga Kowo, has threatened punitive action against lawmakers from the Party who are supporting the removal of the Speaker of the House, Cllr. Fonati Koffa.
Atty. Kowo said:” It is a breach of trust for lawmakers who are members of the CDC to join a ploy to remove the Speaker, who is also a member of the Party.”
In an interview on the ELBC Super Morning Show on Tuesday, October 29,2024, the CDC National Chairman said the Party’s Executive Committee is still in dialogue with those lawmakers to reconsider their decision.
Atty. Kowo also accused the Unity Party of being the mastermind behind the removal of Speaker Fonati Koffa.
The Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change argued that if the Majority Bloc succeeds in removing Speaker Fonati Koffa, the next Speaker could possibly come from the Unity Party.
