MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Sierra Leonean Embassy near Monrovia has extolled the organizers of the ongoing Mano River Union (MRU) Conference on drugs and substance abuse for their farsightedness to safe the region.
The Defense Attache at the Embassy, Konneh Don-Toka, believes that the decision taken by the Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) and partners in the two Mano River Union countries is significant in the fight against drugs.
Speaking on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the start of the event, on behalf of Sierra Leonean Ambassador to Liberia, Defense Attache Don-Toka called on policymakers to prioritize education, rehabilitation and reintegration opportunities for those addicted to drugs.
According to him, the constant intake of drugs among young people is undermining social stability and obstructing youths from realizing their full potential.
The Sierra Leonean Envoy stressed the need for governments in the MRU region to work along with civil society organizations, community leaders, and international partners to address drugs and substance abuse situations.
