MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Minister of Labor has reiterated the Liberian Government’s stance that concession companies prioritize Liberians for jobs set aside by the Labor Laws of Liberia and the best practices.
Labor Minister Cooper Kruah said:” I have not issued work permits to several foreign nationals, there by giving opportunities to Liberians who are qualified in keeping with the Labor Laws and best practices.”
Speaking at a one-day Trafficking-in-Person meeting over the weekend in Monrovia, which brought together representatives of local and international NGOs, Cllr. Kruah noted that over the period, the Labor Ministry has contributed significantly to revenue generation from the granting of work permits to foreign nationals in support of the national budget.
He further said that while he appreciates corporate foreign investment, he is also working to ensure that the Labor Laws of Liberia are respected, and that Liberians have the opportunity to earn revenue to meet the Government’s drive to improve their standards of living and spur economic growth and development.
Minister Cooper Kruah disclosed that his priorities for 2025, as the administering of the of the labor tripartite regime, include the protection of the Labor Sector, trafficking in Person and the issuance of work permits.
