AU Presents $200,000.00 to Gov. of Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The African Union (AU) has presented two hundred thousand US Dollars to the Liberian Government as humanitarian response following a two-day assessment in Montserrado and Grand Cape Mount Counties.

The fund was presented to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, by the Head of the AU Delegation, Ambassador Ana Nembe.

Ambassador Nembe said:” The money is intended to respond to flood affected citizens, refugees and returnees. The AU is committed to improving the livelihood of every citizen and the affected Liberians are no exception.”

The money will be presented to the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRC) and the National Disaster Management Agency to meet the humanitarian needs of the victims.

Meanwhile, the Government of Liberia has described as significant and remarkable the contribution of the AU to disaster response in Liberia.

Acting Foreign Minister Gabriel Salee said:” The AU’s gesture clearly indicates its solidarity to Africanism and people across the continent, and Liberia remains grateful to the AU for its contribution and humanitarian assistance over the years.”

He noted that the AU’s intervention will help to respond to the humanitarian needs of returnees and flood victims.
