MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has proclaimed to extend the first regular session of the 55th National Legislature for fifteen working days, commencing on Friday, December 13 and ending on Monday, January 6, 2025.
The extension is aimed at allowing the National Legislature to discuss and act upon critical national issues, amongst which is the 2025 Draft National Budget.
The proclamation aligns with Article 32(b) of the Liberian Constitution, which provides that the President, upon receipt of a certificate signed by at least one-fourth of the total membership of each house, extend a regular section of the National Legislature beyond the date of adjournment or call a special section of that august body.
The proclamation states that during the first regular session these critical national issues, including the budget were not fully resolved, thereby prompting the National Legislature to again lay before the President another certificate signed by at least one-fourth of the total membership of each House to extend the first regular session.
