MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Ten flood-prone communities in Paynesville and parts adjacent are poised to benefit from a major water provision project.

The project is being sponsored by an international organization, Network for Empowerment Aid Response (NEAR), and implemented by a local organization, United Youth.

As part of the project, hand pumps will be constructed and rehabilitated in five communities. In comparison, five communities will be connected to the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) lines to facilitate safe drinking water for residents.

According to United Youth, areas to benefit from hand pump construction and rehabilitation include New Guinea, Gaza, Norvlin Town, OMEGA, and Peace Communities.

Launching the project on Saturday, December 14, 2024, in Norvlin Community, United Youth Head of Finance and Administration Decontee Weah assured that the organization will provide quality drinking water to the benefiting communities.

“We will ensure that we take the water to the laboratory and testing is done to make of the needed quality, because we don’t want to provide just water, we want to provide quality water”, Mr. Weah added.

He stressed the need for sustainability when the project is complete, as it will encourage donors to do more to help.

Mr. Weah further said:” We will conduct training for pump management because the issue of sustainability is a problem in this country.”

For their part, the heads and stakeholders of the benefiting communities thanked the United Youth and partners for the gesture.

They spoke of the need for the work to speed up because the lack of safe drinking water was an issue in their communities.
