MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai wants member states of ECOWAS to collaborate in tackling the rising insecurity in the Sahel Region.
President Boakai said,” Collaboration is pivotal to addressing imminent security challenges in the region. Developing sustainable solutions that ensure peace and stability for the region requires the collective efforts of all member states.”
President Boakai said to protect the peace and security of the region, actionable steps urgently needed to be taken by all regions to curb the increasing terrorist activities.
The Liberian Leader made the remarks over the weekend at the 66th Ordinary Session of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Abuja, Nigeria.
Meanwhile, President Boakai says Liberia is deeply concerned about the expected pulling out of Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso from the regional body, ECOWAS.
The three countries are due to annul their membership from ECOWAS in early January, next year.
President Boakai said:” The departure of these countries will not only stall the progress of the regional body but will also undermine the peace and security of member states.”
The President, however, disclosed that Senegal and Togo are leading ongoing discussions to remedy the impending move by the three departing countries.
President Joseph Boakai re-emphasized Liberia’s readiness to lead efforts to resolve conflicts and restore peace in the sub-region.
