BONG COUNTY, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Agriculture has launched the harvest of over two thousand hectares of rice in Fuamah, Lower Bong County.
With support from the World Bank’s Rural Economic Transformation Project (RETRAP) under the Ministry of Agriculture, the rice was planted by the Fuamah Development Multi-Purpose Corporative.
Speaking at the launch of the harvest over the weekend, Agriculture Minister Alexander Nuetah encouraged the farmers to remain unbending in their desire to grow what they eat.
Minister Nuetah said:” President Joseph Boakai’s quest to see a nation that feeds itself is a challenge that every rice farmer across the country must live up to.”
The agriculture minister warned against dishonesty on the part of farmers who benefit from cash and equipment from the ministry and fail to cultivate the needed acres of farmland.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Bong County Legislative Caucus, Senator Prince Moye, has promised the fullest support of the National Legislature to the Agriculture Sector.
According to Senator Moye, such support is proven by an increase in the budgetary appropriation for Fiscal Year 2025.
He urged the Executive to prioritize implementing policies on food security and sufficiency as part of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.
Senator Moye thanked the Ministry of Agriculture and farmers for achieving such a feat.
Also, the Secretary of the County’s Caucus, Representative Foday Fahnbulleh, lauded the Ministry of Agriculture for its continuous support to farmers in Fuamah District.
