MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Presiding Justice in Chambers has placed another ‘Stay Order’ in the trial involving five former officials of the Weah Administration.
Associate Justice Yamie Gbeisay’s action was a result of a petition filed by the lawyers of the Liberian Government for a Writ of Certiorari against Criminal Court “C” Judge Blamo Dixon.
The Government’s petition is in connection to Judge Dixon’s decision to rescue himself from the ex-Finance Minister, Samuel Tweah, and four other criminal cases after they accused him of being conflicted in the trial.
Justice Gbeisay’s December 23 Order cited the parties to a legal conference on December 30, and mandated Judge Dixon to stop all further proceedings, following the outcome of the conference.
The Justice in Chambers’s decision comes at a time when all five defendants pleaded ‘not guilty’ on December 20, thereby shifting the Burden of Proof on the lawyers of government to prove all their claims in the indictment against the defendants.
The defendants have since been indicted by the Government of Liberia for allegedly stealing over six million US Dollars during the regime of former President George Weah.
The charges ranged from economic sabotage, theft, and criminal conspiracy, among others.
