MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia says its systematic payroll audit of spending entities was not intended to witch-hunt people, as being speculated by some opposition figures.
Deputy Information Minister for Press and Public Affairs, Daniel Sando, clarified that the Government’s decision was intended to foster public sector transparency and accountability.
Minister Sando said: “The Government was spending more monies on individuals who were not actively working for the country, something which triggered the decision.”
He assured of the Government’s determination to curb wasteful spending in the public sector, to improve the livelihood of Liberians.
Meanwhile, Minister Sando has hailed the Director General of the Civil Service Agency, Josiah Joekai, for launching a comprehensive payroll audit at all spending entities of the Government of Liberia.
