MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Senate Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence has set the agenda of the Liberian Senate for the Second Session of the 55th National Legislature.
Speaking on Monday, January 13, 2025, during the reconvening of members of the National Legislature, Pro-Tempore Karngar-Lawrence said:” The Senate’s agenda for the first three months will focus on forty bills currently in the Committee Rooms.”
She named some of the legislations as an Act to Establish the Liberia Technical and Vocational Education Commission, an Act to Establish the Liberia Capitol Police (LCP) 2024, the Presidential Transitional Act of 2024, the Decent Work Act, and the Ministry of Local Government.
At the same time, Senator Karngar-Lawrence has provided a progress report during the First Session of the 55th National Legislature.
She added that the Senate passed twenty-seven legislations, including eighteen ratifications, three amendments, and six enactments, and confirmed nine hundred ninety-six officials of Government.
Meanwhile, she has mandated all committees of the Senate to be robust in the tracking of budget programs and implementation in all sectors.
The Senate Pro-Tempore called on the Ways, Means, Finance, and Budget Committee to ensure that the Ministry of Finance gives a quarterly disbursement report for timely payments to sectors to execute projects and programs.
The Grand Bassa County Senator also mandated the Committee on Public Works to provide a list of road projects in the 2025 National Budget, locations, costs, and timelines, including outstanding projects within one week to the Senate.
The Committee on Energy and Environment of the Senate Building with the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) to install a meter for effective payment of electricity bills.
The Senate Pro-Tempore noted that the move is aimed at ensuring that the Senate takes the lead in paying bills for the sustainability of the LEC and holds all government ministries and agencies accountable for doing the same.
