Supreme Court of Liberia Entertains Legal Arguments Today…

by Fabine W. Kwiah

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Supreme Court of Liberia will today, Tuesday, January 14, entertain legal arguments between the Management of Gracious Ride and the Assets Recovery Team of the Government of Liberia, after being delayed for eight months.

The hearing was scheduled through a Notice of Assignment issued on January 10 to the parties’ lawyers.

The assignment revealed that the matter would be heard before the Full Bench, and the parties involved were mandated to file their legal briefs before Tuesday’s hearing as provided for by law.

ELBC Judicial Reporter said:” The decision of the Supreme Court comes following a series of public outcry regarding the delay of the case between both parties.”

The management of Gracious Ride has since filed a petition to the Supreme Court, questioning President Joseph Boakai’s Executive Order 126, which created the Assets Recovery Team headed by former Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) Chairman Cllr. Edwin Martin.

The petitioners believed President Boakai’s order undermined the Constitution of Liberia when the LACC was established for such purpose, and wanted the Supreme Court’s interpretation on said matter.
