MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The president of the Liberian National Bar Association says, under their watch, they shall hold the government at all levels accountable, including and especially the branches of government which constitute the indispensable elements of our democracy.
Cllr. Bornor Varmah, said:” The LNBA will work towards ensuring that the government’s policies and programs meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people, as they relate to the provision of good governance, transparency in financial expenditures.”
The LNBA President noted that they will strive to ensure that the government responds appropriately to the challenges of securing lives and properties, respect for the fundamental rights of freedom, the provision of gainful employment, and reducing drastically the cost of governance, and ensuring that welfare of people is given top-most priority.
He, however, noted that a strong, professional, and independent Bar is indispensable to national development and that under their leadership, they will strengthen professional ethics and accountability within the legal profession, and advocate for an impartial and independent judiciary.
Cllr. Varmah made the remarks over the weekend, in his inaugural speech, when he was inducted as President of the LNBA at the EJS Ministerial Complex.
Those inducted are: Cllr. Bornor Varmah, President, Cllr. Juah Lawson, Vice President, Cllr. Elisha Forkiah, Secretary General, and Attorney Yemi Williams, Treasurer. They are to serve for three years. –
