MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has endorsed a private company Energy-to build a 270-megawatt Hybrid Gas Power Plant to strengthen national energy security.
It followed a meeting hosted by President Joseph Boakai with the visiting management team of TRANSCO CLSG and key actors in the Energy Sector.
As part of the proposal, Genser Energy is expected to construct a 270-megawatt gas natural plant and thermal power plant in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
According to the government, the plan is a strategic step toward expanding Liberia’s power generation capacity, strengthening grid stability, and fostering economic growth.
The first phase is expected to be implemented within eighteen months, producing approximately 120 megawatts, while phase two, which will incorporate a combined steam cycle for enhanced efficiency and greater power output, will bring the total capacity of 270 megawatts within an additional twelve months.
Meanwhile, President Joseph Boakai underscored the importance of mobilizing private sector investment to ensure affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity for all Liberians.
President Boakai emphasized that once implemented, the project will catalyze industrialization, job creation, and economic growth.
The Liberian Leader said:” Genser Energy Hybrid Gas Power Plant, once implemented, will reduce Liberia’s dependence on seasonal hydropower and expensive electricity imports, ensuring greater energy independence.
