MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Carter Center Liberia Office has signed the Book of Condolence for the late former American President, Jimmy Carter.
The signing of the Book of Condolence saw the presence of former Liberian President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Police Inspector General, Gregory Coleman, and heads of civil society and non-governmental organizations.
Speaking at the ceremony on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, Carter Center Senior Country Representative, Benedict Dossen, conveyed the Carter family’s deep gratitude to everyone for their concern and steadfast partnership with the Center over the years.
Mr. Dossen said:” The Carter family’s vision to wage peace, fight disease, and build hope couldn’t have been possible without the strong commitment and generosity of everyone who contributed.”
He maintained that the Carter Center will ensure that the vision and dream of the fallen former President remain alive.
Former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf also paid tribute to the late U.S. President.
Madam Johnson-Sirleaf recounted the effort of former President Carter to restore peace and promote democracy in Liberia.
Madam Sirleaf said:” The former U.S. president stood by Liberians during the difficult days to ensure that Liberia achieved genuine reconciliation and development.”
She noted that Liberians are grateful for the many interventions made by Mr. Carter in rendering humanitarian services to Liberia and Africa at large.
