MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The- The Management of the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) has confiscated a huge consignment of wood valued at over twenty thousand United States Dollars.

The wood was seized for evading the Liberian Government’s taxes, undermining the government’s revenue generation, and illegally trading Block-wood known as Kpokolo, Teak, and Round logs at checkpoints in Nimba, Bong, and Grand Cape Mount Counties recently.

Speaking at a press conference at the headquarters of the FDA in Paynesville over the weekend, FDA Deputy Managing Director for Administration Victor Kpaiseh said,” Besides the evasion of tax, FDA has since banned the harvesting and exportation of block-woods in Liberia.”

He also disclosed that the companies trading the woods, Liber-for, Rose Mac, and Amengo operational permits have since expired.

Meanwhile, the Management of Liber-for has been forwarded to the Caldwell Magisterial Court, while the Rose Mac and Amengo are expected to be taken to court shortly.
