MONROVIA, LIBERIA- Several members of the United Methodist Church (UMC) Special Investigative Committee have reaffirmed their stance against same-sex marriage speculation in the church.
The reaffirmation comes amid growing tension amongst some members of the church, who accuse Bishop Samuel Quire and others of signing a resolution to practice same-sex marriage in the UMC.
Speaking on Thursday, March 13, 2025, on the Super Morning Show, Dr. Tolbert Nyensua, a member of the UMC Investigative Committee, dismissed the report, stating that at no time did Bishop Quire sign a resolution of such.
He said:” The UMC only recognized two genders as such reports of some members of the UMC signing a resolution to practice same-sex marriage is only intended to damage the image of the Church.”
Meanwhile, the investigative team has thanked Bishop Samuel Quire for strides made over the years to protect the doctrine of the UMC, while pledging the Church’s commitment to work in line with the Liberian Constitution.
