MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) Senior Communications Officer Daniel Ankrah has called on communication heads of tax authorities across West Africa to leverage digital tools for enhanced taxpayer awareness and improved tax compliance.
Serving as a panelist at the West African Tax Administration Forum (WATAF) Conference for Communication Heads, Mr. Ankrah shared Liberia’s success stories on how digital communication strategies have significantly boosted taxpayers’ knowledge and compliance.
He also emphasized the need for communication leaders within tax administrations to train tax technicians in basic communication skills, ensuring that tax-related messaging is clear, effective, and widely understood.
The conference, held in Abuja, Nigeria, under the theme “Fostering Effective Communications for Institutional and Corporate Development in Tax Administrations: The Role of WATAF Focus Persons,” brought together participants from all fifteen West African countries.
The two-day training aimed at strengthening communication strategies among tax authorities, facilitating experience-sharing, and addressing communication challenges.
At the same time, LRA and the National Revenue Authority of Sierra Leone, NRA, have concluded discussions to deepen regional cooperation for modernized customs procedures.
The discussion, which was held recently between the LRA and the NRA in Monrovia, highlighted integrated border management, revenue collection processes, and anti-smuggling measures, among others.
In a release issued on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, LRA Assistant Customs Commissioner for Ports Operations, Edwin Kendema, commended the National Revenue Authority of Sierra Leone for choosing LRA as a model for customs best practices.
The release quotes Mr. Kendema as saying the visit of the Sierra Leone revenue team to Liberia underscores the importance of continued exchange of knowledge in customs administration.
Meanwhile, Sierra Leone National Revenue Authority Assistant Commissioner for Border Management and Control, John Amara, expressed deep gratitude to LRA for its openness in sharing operational insights.
