MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Criminal Court ‘E’ at the Temple of Justice has finally released suspect Daniel George, Priest of the Christ the King Catholic Church in Sinkor, Monrovia, following allegation of rape after six months in detention at the Monrovia Central Prison.
The Court confirmed to our reporter that Judge Sarena Garlawolo restored the suspect George’s freedom without prejudice to the State.
This means that prosecuting lawyers can reopen the Catholic Priest’s case when the need arises.
Judge Garlawolo’s March 26, 2025, decision to dismiss suspect Daniel George’s sex case was triggered by a motion filed by a defense lawyer urging the court to thrash the criminal charge against his client consistent with Chapter 18, Section 18.2 of the Criminal Procedure Law of Liberia.
The Liberian clergyman, aged 32, was arrested in 2024 for allegedly raping one of his member’s 16-year-old daughter on the Old Road, in Sinkor.
But, Prosecuting lawyers’ failure to proceed with the matter since his arrest in October 2024, led his lawyer to apply consistent with Chapter 18, Section 18.2 of the criminal procedure law.
The law states that a defendant shall be tried within two court terms.
It further states that failure on the part of the prosecuting attorney to proceed with the matter can be dismissed under this provision.
