Director General of Bureau of State Enterprises Clarifies Procurement Fraud Allegation…

by Fabine W. Kwiah

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Director General of the Bureau of State Enterprises (BSE) says the allegation of procurement fraud being circulated stemmed from incidents which occurred before his administration.

Arthur Massaquoi said,” Despite our dedicated efforts to transition the BSE into a fully legislated entity, there are individuals with ill intentions seeking to hinder the process, and since taking office, my administration has taken significant steps to address negative campaigns and ensure transparency.”

Director General further disclosed that the BSE has been under investigation by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) following a complaint filed by Varlee Sarnor, and assured the public that the report from the LACC will be released soon, and its findings will form the basis for necessary actions.

Despite the challenges, the BSE remains focused on engaging with partners such as the European Union (EU), which has demonstrated confidence by providing budgetary support, noting that they aim to discourage their partners and obstruct the growth and development of the BSE.

The statement is in response to recent social media and media coverage of alleged malpractices at the entity.

In another development, the BSE is organizing an event in Ganta, Nimba County, with the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) where the roles of SOEs will be clarified, and establish effective measures to enhance their performance.

Recently, a validation workshop for a draft act for the establishment of the SOE Authority and procurement processes put in place to secure transport buses for staffers, and is now in the final stages of implementing an insurance scheme to cover health-related concerns for their employees.
