GRAND BASSA COUNTY, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has stressed the importance of improving the infrastructure outlook of the Port of Buchanan, in Grand Bassa County.
According to the Liberian Leader, the move is necessary to attract investors and ensure the efficient and effective operations of the port.
President Boakai said,” The modernization of the Buchanan Port and other ports across the country is vital to improving the Liberian Government’s revenue generation and the economy.”
He was speaking over the weekend when he had gone to inspect the facilities at the Buchanan Port and gather first-hand information about the operations of the government-run institution.
The Liberian Leader, while commending the Port Management for ongoing efforts to improve the workings of the port, called for increased support to upgrade the system to a better one.
Meanwhile, the Manager of the Port of Buchanan, Jonathan Kaipay, is pleading with members of the House of Representatives for the speedy passage of a bill seeking to make all ports across Liberia autonomous.
Mr. Kaipay said,” The bill, when passed, will support the government’s decentralization efforts and improve the overall performance of all ports in the country.”
Speaking to reporters in Buchanan over the weekend, Mr. Kaipay stated that the passage of the bill would aid each port to independently strategize and formulate policies aimed at enhancing their operations.
He also disclosed ongoing efforts to improve the infrastructure and upgrade the port services to meet international standards.
The Buchanan Port Manager then lauded President Joseph Boakai for the confidence reposed in him to supervise the affairs of the country’s second-largest port.
