MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government, through the Ministry of Education, has signed a two-million-euro grant agreement with the EU and UNICEF to upgrade the country’s Education Management Information System (EMIS).
According to our reporter, the initiative is aimed at enhancing data collection, analysis, and management processes, enabling more effective planning and resource allocation within the Education Sector.
During the signing ceremony in Congo Town on Wednesday, April 16, UNICEF Representative Andy Brooks highlighted the importance of teacher training and foundational learning, noting that 50 percent of children in Liberia are out of school.
He stressed the need for well-equipped educators and improved learning environments to tackle the country’s education crisis.
For her part, Education Minister Dr. Jarso Jallah expressed gratitude to the EU and UNICEF for their unwavering support in advancing Liberia’s education system.
She emphasized the EMIS upgrade’s transformative potential, stating that it would strengthen the foundation for evidence-based decision-making and improve the overall quality of education delivery.
Minister Jallah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that the grant effectively addresses systemic challenges and creates better opportunities for students and teachers.
