MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has reaffirmed the Liberian Government’s stance on preserving the sanctity of the country’s democracy by the law.
President Boakai said:” The government will continue to vigorously uphold the rule of law, which is a vital principle of Liberia’s democratic process.”
The President’s message was contained in a State of the Nation Address on Thursday, April 24, 2025, on the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding the Legislative impasse at the House of Representatives.
He said,” Since the government fully respects the three separate but coordinate branches of the governance structure, it will continue to do business with the Majority Bloc to ensure the full functioning of the government.”
According to the Liberian Leader, the ongoing stalemate at the House of Representatives has, over the past three months, undermined public confidence in one of the most vital democratic institutions in the country, and there is an urgent need for a solution.
In his address, President Joseph Boakai called for calm and committed hearts as the government, partners, and national stakeholders continue to collaborate on finding an amicable solution to the ongoing impasse at the Lower House.
Meanwhile, President Boakai is calling on citizens and leaders to rise above division and demonstrate the enduring values of patriotism, unity, and national purpose.
The Liberian Leader believes that demonstrating patriotism, unity, and national purpose are key pillars to a thriving democracy as opposed to division that breeds chaos and underdevelopment.
He also urged them to uphold and protect the tenets of democracy and preserve the nation’s peace.
President Joseph Boakai said:” If the country is to move forward, leaders must begin to prioritize the interest of the people they govern over self-greed and prejudice.”
