MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Labor has advanced the use of Social Innovation as the best formula to tackle increasing labor challenges.
Addressing the Global Labour Summit in Luxembourg recently, Labour Minister Cllr. Cooper Kruah described Social Innovation as the development and employment of effective solutions to challenges and often systematic social, cultural, economic, and environmental issues to improve the quality of lives of individuals, communities, and larger societies.
Minister Kruah informed the world gathering of labour officials that, from poverty, inequality, to climate change and global health issues, there is a need for solutions that go beyond traditional approaches using Social Innovations and holistic methods.
He stressed that social innovative initiatives must take into account the economic and social factors at play in any given situation, with social innovation playing a key role, particularly in the workplace of industrial conglomerates.
Minister Kruah informed the world body that with social innovation, there can be sustainable solutions that have far-reaching impacts on the world, adding that social innovation refers to the development and implementation of new ideas, approaches, and solutions to address pressing social, cultural, and environmental challenges.
Meanwhile, Minister Kruah named the positive by-products of contemporary social innovation as clean water projects in developing nations, mobile banking and financial services, crowd-funding platforms to support social causes, and sustainable solutions in Africa and the Pacific regions.
He underscored the profound importance of digital education programs across the globe as another social component that is crucial to providing learning opportunities for students who may not be able to attend traditional educational institutions, as well as benefiting millions of workers in the formal and informal sectors.
Minister Kruah commended Germany’s Labour Minister, Georges Mischo, host of the conference, and fellow world labour officials at the Summit for the invitation to Liberia to participate.
Cllr. Cooper Kruah then extended President Joseph Boakai’s unflinching commitment to the ongoing transformation of Liberia’s Labour Sector and the full implementation of all regional and international labour protocols to which Liberia is signatory.
