Ninth Graders throughout Liberia Sit West African Examination Council Exam Today

by Administrator

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Ninth graders across the country have today commenced this year’s Junior High School Certificate Examination.

The exam is being administered by the West African Examination Council-WAEC-Liberia.

It is expected to be administered to students for the next two days, April 28 and 29, respectively, in four core subjects: Mathematics, English, Social Studies, and General Science.

Our reporter, who toured some centers where the examination is being administered, said some students expressed confidence in their capability, while others said the exam is difficult, mainly in Mathematics.

Candidates at the John Lewis Morris United Methodist High School in Paynesville alleged that the mathematics examination was drawn from the senior high division, thus describing it as foreign to them.

They, at the same time, complained about the late start of the mathematics examination.

Meanwhile, the supervisor at John Lewis Morris United Methodist High School in Paynesville, Ezekiel Garkpu, told our reporter that the examination started an hour passed the time.

Mr. Garpu attributed the late start of the exam to the shortage of testing booklets given to them by WAEC-Liberia.

According to him, the number of students from the eight schools that emerged at that Center exceeded the previous number of booklets given by the Council.

However, Mr Garpu disclosed that the examination later began by 9:30 am, noting that the students were given additional time for the delay.

The West African Examination Council is a non-profit-making organization that is responsible for the conduct of national and international examinations at pre-tertiary levels in five West African Countries, including Liberia.
