Unity Party Allies Strongly Condemn “Subversive Statement” from Opposition Politicians

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Political allies of the ruling Unity Party (UP) have strongly condemned what they termed as subversive statements emanating from opposition politicians.

The UP allies denounced the statement as a serious threat to national security, and one that has the proclivity of reversing the peace and democratic gains made so far by the current government.

At a news conference in Monrovia on Sunday, April 27, 2025, the UP Alliance made reference to last Friday’s opposition gathering where some opposition members threatened to make the country ungovernable if President Joseph Boakai failed to enforce the Supreme Court’s ruling.

The UP-Alliance statement, read by the Chairman of the Liberia Restoration Party, Gabriel Saydee, denounced the opposition statement as morally bankrupt and an attempt to prioritize political ambition above national interest.

Saydee quoted the UP-Alliance as saying the threat by the opposition to shut down the government through violence is unacceptable, and such action will be met by stiff resistance by the Liberian people.

The UP-Alliance is, meanwhile, urging all peace-loving Liberians to remain vigilant against efforts to sow discord that will germinate into chaos and division.

Meanwhile, the UP-Alliance has expressed concerns over the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Bill of Information case by Cllr. Fonati Koffa, noting that the verdict has exacerbated the impasse at the House of Representatives.

The Alliance indicated that if improperly enforced, the Court’s ruling threatens to paralyze governance, destabilize the National Legislature, and potentially undermine national peace and progress.

The UP-Alliance said:” We stand with President Joseph Boakai in his quest to preserve constitutional democracy and respect the separation of powers to ensure the government remains functional for the betterment of the nation and its people.”
