MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Civil Law Court has adjudged Hassan and Hussein Fadiga liable for damages in the amount of 1.5 million US dollars.
The lawsuit was instituted by former Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) boss Abraham Kromah.
Despite the 5-million-dollar lawsuit, the Court on Monday, May 5, 2025, reduced the amount by awarding him 1.5 million for general damages and one hundred thousand US dollars in punitive damages, which will serve as a deterrent for the defendant’s reckless, lawless, and impolite attitude.
The defendants, Hassan and Hussein Fadiga, were absent when the Court delivered the ruling, but Cllr. Ambrose Nmah was appointed by the Court to receive the ruling, where the appointed lawyer took an exception to the ruling and announced an appeal to the Supreme Court.
The action of damages for libel was filed on February 6, 2025, where the defendants accused Kromah, among other things, of removing CCTV from the home of convict George Obi, a notorious drug dealer, alias Japan.
The two brothers alleged that two hundred thousand US dollars were stolen from the home of Japan while carrying on the raid.
Minutes after the Court’s ruling, complainant Abraham Kromah told ELBC that this would serve as a deterrent to people who malign people’s character.
