MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring food security, rural development, and economic opportunities.
Delivering a statement on behalf of President Joseph Boakai during the groundbreaking for the construction of a state-of-the-art fish hatchery in Klay, Bomi County, over the weekend, Ambassador at-Large at the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs, Charles Snetter, emphasized that the construction aligns with President Boakai’s agenda for change, especially in the areas of agriculture, rural transformation and national self-reliance.
Ambassador Snetter disclosed that when completed, the Klay hatchery will produce high-quality fingerlings to supply fish farmers across the country, making notorious affordable fish more available all year round, reducing pressure on Liberia’s wide life fishery, while supporting modern sustainable agriculture.
He disclosed that the hatchery when completed will create jobs, support small business and open new doors, especially for women and young people in areas like fish farming, feed production and processing.
Ambassador Snetter assured that, in addition to Bomi Bounty, nearby counties and eventually the rest of Liberia will benefit from the hatchery.
The Liberian Government, through the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority, with support from the World Bank, over the weekend broke ground for the construction of the hatchery in Klay.
